Pimax says ‘I’ll have what Valve’s having’ as it announces new wireless VR headset, foveated streaming, updated controllers, and long Steam Machine
Pimax has announced a comprehensive new lineup of VR hardware, appearing to follow Valve’s recent product expansion strategy. The flagship offering is the Crystal Pro, a fully wireless VR headset designed to eliminate cable constraints while maintaining visual fidelity. The device ships with a Wi-Fi 6E adapter for connecting to gaming PCs, similar to Valve’s Steam Frame.
For enhanced wireless performance, Pimax is offering an optional 60G AirLink wireless streaming kit. This advanced connectivity solution operates on 60 GHz frequency bands with 2x2 MIMO technology, providing higher bandwidth and more reliable connections than traditional Wi-Fi. According to Pimax, this approach enables image transmission without visual compression—a key advantage for gaming applications.
Complementing the headset are updated VR controllers featuring a “ringfree” design, which improves ergonomics and tracking. Pimax is also implementing foveated streaming technology, which optimizes visual fidelity by rendering higher detail where the user’s eyes focus, reducing overall bandwidth requirements and improving performance.
The announcement also includes a new “Steam Machine,” though specific details remain limited. The overall product strategy clearly mirrors Valve’s approach to hardware diversification in the VR peripheral space.
