All hail the long steam machine, Pimax’s new SteamOS-ready mini PC

Pimax has announced the Spation, a new living room mini PC running SteamOS, drawing clear inspiration from Valve’s original Steam Machine. The device features high-end specifications designed for gaming, including a choice between the AMD RX 9070 XT or Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti graphics card, paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor.

The Spation comes equipped with 32GB of DDR5 memory, a 1TB SSD, and a 1000W SFX power supply. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and dual DisplayPort connections for multi-monitor setups. While the industrial design closely mirrors Valve’s iconic black box form factor, Pimax is positioning this device as a fully-fledged gaming PC alternative for the living room market.

The announcement represents another manufacturer’s entry into the SteamOS-compatible gaming PC segment, a space where Valve’s original Steam Machine failed to gain significant market traction. By leveraging current-generation AMD and Nvidia hardware alongside SteamOS, Pimax is targeting enthusiasts seeking a console-like living room gaming experience without sacrificing PC performance and flexibility.
