Spending On Switch 2 Game-Key Cards In The U.S. Has Risen By 631%
Physical media spending in the U.S. experienced notable growth in 2026, driven primarily by a dramatic surge in Switch 2 Game-Key Card purchases. According to Circana’s latest sales report, spending on Switch 2 Game-Key Cards skyrocketed by 631% during the year, representing an unprecedented shift in the physical media market.
Despite this exceptional growth in Game-Key Cards, the broader physical media landscape showed weakness, with other physical media formats declining by 3%. However, the substantial increase in Switch 2 Game-Key Card spending was significant enough to offset these declines entirely. As a result, total spending on physical media across all categories rose by 5% overall.
The data, compiled by analyst Mat Piscatella and released through Circana’s sales tracking division, highlights the Switch 2’s strong market presence and consumer interest in Game-Key Cards as a preferred method of purchasing and distributing games for the console. This trend underscores the ongoing relevance of physical game distribution, even as the industry continues to evolve toward digital platforms.
