Vikings Creator’s New Series Bloodaxe Sets 2027 Premiere Date
Bloodaxe, a new historical action series from Vikings creator Michael Hirst, will premiere on Prime Video on January 20, 2027, with all eight episodes of season 1 releasing simultaneously. The series was announced at New York Comic Con, where Hirst and co-showrunner Horatio Hirst unveiled the first teaser trailer alongside cast members Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, and Levi Miller.
Set in 10th-century Norway, the series follows Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), a Norse raider attempting to seize the Norwegian throne alongside his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Madsen). The narrative centers on their struggle through rivalries, shifting alliances, and violent betrayals as they pursue their claim to power. The show brings Hirst’s signature historical drama approach—honed through his successful tenure on Vikings—to a new Norse-focused saga that explores the ambitions and conflicts of legendary Viking figures.
