FBI Arrests Suspect from Hacker Group that Targeted GTA and the FBI Itself

The hacking collective ShinyHunters has been linked to a series of high-profile breaches targeting both the gaming industry and U.S. federal law enforcement. In April 2026, the group targeted Rockstar Games, developer of Grand Theft Auto 6, stealing sensitive financial data. After failing to extort a ransom from the studio, ShinyHunters publicly released the information, exposing detailed financial records of Rockstar’s operations, particularly revenue streams from Grand Theft Auto Online.

The group escalated its activities in September by breaching the Federal Bureau of Investigation and compromising personal information belonging to current and former FBI employees as well as job applicants. On Friday, the FBI announced the arrest of a suspect in Pennsylvania connected to the September breach. According to sources speaking with The New York Times, the individual is considered a “primary co-conspirator” in the FBI hack. The suspect’s name and specific charges remain undisclosed.

The case underscores growing cybersecurity threats to major entertainment companies and government institutions alike.
