A Street Fighter Movie Sequel Is Already Being Written, but There’s a Catch

Street Fighter director Kitao Sakurai has confirmed that he is actively developing a screenplay for a sequel to his upcoming Street Fighter film. The potential sequel would continue the story of franchise icons Ryu and Ken following the events of the second World Warrior Tournament. However, Sakurai made clear that any continuation of the series depends entirely on how well the first film performs at the box office.

In an interview with MovieWeb, Sakurai explained that while the creative groundwork for a sequel is already underway, he was careful not to make any statements that would “lock us in” to future commitments. The director’s cautious approach reflects the reality of modern film production, where franchise continuations typically hinge on the financial success of the initial installment. For fans hoping to see more of Ryu and Ken’s cinematic adventures, box office support for the first Street Fighter film will be crucial in determining whether this story continues.
