Valve is telling devs how well their games actually run on Steam Deck with real world data
Valve has launched a new initiative to provide developers with real-world frame rate performance data from Steam Deck players. Beginning October 1st, developers can now access metrics showing what frame rates users achieve in their games, broken down as percentages of total play sessions. This data reveals whether games run at the Steam Deck’s target frame rates of 60 or 90 fps, or if players are forced to lower the fps cap to maintain playability.
The new feature aims to improve the accuracy and credibility of Steam’s verification system, which certifies games as compatible with the handheld console. By providing developers with concrete evidence of real-world performance, Valve hopes to address instances where games marked as “Steam Deck Verified” fall short of quality expectations. The frame rate metrics represent just one component of broader performance analytics available to developers.
This move incentivizes developers to take Steam Deck optimization more seriously and make necessary adjustments to ensure their games deliver the verified experience. The initiative reflects Valve’s commitment to maintaining user trust in the verification program and improving overall satisfaction with console performance.
