The studio behind Star Wars Zero Company is bringing back some of its furloughed staff
Bit Reactor, the developer behind Star Wars Zero Company, has announced it is recalling some of the staff members it furloughed earlier this year. The studio had laid off over 80% of its workforce amid sales uncertainty just as the game was launching, leaving affected employees technically employed but receiving no pay during the critical launch period.
CEO Greg Foertsch justified the decision as a necessary measure made in response to unexpected business developments. In a recent statement posted on Bluesky, the studio indicated it was beginning to reverse the furloughs and bring back employees. Foertsch characterized the initial decision as “incredibly difficult” but claimed it was essential to preserve the company’s ability to rehire staff more comprehensively in the future.
The furlough represented a significant business challenge for both the studio and its workforce at a particularly sensitive time for the game’s commercial performance. By bringing employees back as the company’s financial situation improves, Bit Reactor is attempting to stabilize its operations and workforce following the turbulent launch period.
