Analysis Firm Shares Their Sales Estimates For Gears Of War: E-Day
Analysis firm Alinea Analytics has shared early sales estimates for Gears of War: E-Day, projecting approximately 230,000 copies sold so far. Of those, 168,000 came through Steam, while Xbox accounts for the remaining unit sales. However, Xbox generates 75% of total revenue despite lower unit numbers, a disparity driven largely by Game Pass Premium Upgrades—722,000 of the 1.7 million Xbox Game Pass players who sampled the game purchased the premium tier.
The modest sales figures have reignited discussion around Microsoft’s decision to cancel a nearly completed PS5 port of the game. According to reports, a finished PlayStation 5 version exists within The Coalition’s offices and had been rated for release in multiple regions. Microsoft’s accidental disclosure of PS5 development during the game’s announcement prompted questions about why the platform holder ultimately chose to keep the title exclusive to Xbox and PC, particularly given the relatively soft launch numbers.
