WandaVision Creator Set To Develop New Stargate Series
Amazon MGM Studios is moving forward with a new Stargate television series, appointing Jac Schaeffer, showrunner of Disney+’s critically acclaimed WandaVision, to lead the project. This represents a second attempt at developing the science fiction property for streaming after an earlier effort was shelved.
Amazon originally partnered with Martin Gero, creator of the crime thriller Blindspot, in 2025 to develop a Stargate series. However, the project was canceled during early development when Amazon expressed concerns that Gero’s creative direction would lack broad commercial appeal. Rather than abandoning the franchise, the studio continued seeking a new creative vision.
Schaeffer’s appointment signals Amazon’s confidence in finding a storyteller who can revitalize the classic science fiction franchise for contemporary audiences. With her proven ability to deliver character-driven narratives that achieved both critical acclaim and mainstream success with WandaVision, Schaeffer’s involvement suggests Amazon is prioritizing a more accessible approach than the previous iteration.
