Warner Bros. 41-Year-Old Fantasy Classic Reboot is Officially Happening
Adam Wingard’s long-gestating live-action adaptation of the 1980s animated series ThunderCats remains in active development at Warner Bros., despite more than five years passing since the project was first announced. In a recent update, director Wingard confirmed that the film is still on his slate and that he was working on it earnestly earlier this year, putting to rest earlier concerns that the project had stalled entirely.
The live-action ThunderCats film has taken a backseat to other high-profile productions, including Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the A24 action-thriller Onslaught. The extended development timeline reflects the director’s juggling of multiple projects rather than any fundamental issues with the adaptation itself. Wingard, known for his work on blockbuster action films and creature features, has maintained his commitment to bringing the beloved 1980s property to the screen as a live-action feature.
