Squadron 42 opens for Steam wishlisting ahead of a planned Q2 2027 release
Squadron 42, the single-player campaign from Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games, has officially opened for Steam wishlisting ahead of its planned Q2 2027 release. The company announced the milestone on October 10th alongside a new trailer showcasing the game.
Set in the year 2945, Squadron 42 places players in the role of a rookie naval pilot enlisting in the United Empire of Earth Navy during a galactic war. Players will be stationed aboard a capital ship where they’ll work and live alongside a crew, progressing through the ranks as the conflict unfolds.
The game promises a diverse gameplay experience that blends space combat with ground-based operations and stealth sections, interspersed with quieter character-driven moments aboard the ship. Cloud Imperium has emphasized that player choices will matter, allowing meaningful interactions with crewmates that influence the narrative experience. The emphasis on both action sequences and interpersonal storytelling suggests the developer is positioning Squadron 42 as a story-driven alternative to the persistent multiplayer focus of the base Star Citizen game.
The Steam wishlist option allows players to express interest and receive notifications upon launch. With a Q2 2027 target, the game remains in active development.
