Seamless Landing mod looks set to bring Starfield another step closer to No Man’s Sky

A new mod for Starfield is set to bring the space exploration game significantly closer to the seamless experience found in No Man’s Sky and Star Wars Outlaws. The mod, created by Frederik Wessberg, would eliminate the loading screens and landing animations that currently interrupt gameplay when players arrive at planets.

Starfield already has community mods for Seamless Grav Jumps and Seamless Planet Takeoffs, but landing at a planet still requires selecting a landing spot followed by a loading screen and animation sequence. This currently contributes to the feeling that the spaceship functions more like a teleporting house than a vessel capable of smooth planetary descent.

The achievement is particularly notable given that Starfield’s planets exist as textures that players can technically fly through if they attempt to bypass the game’s boundaries. Filling this gap—creating seamless transitions from space directly to planetary surfaces—was considered a limitation modders would likely never overcome due to the game’s core architecture.

Wessberg’s work appears to have solved this technical challenge, though complete details about the implementation remain limited from the available information. This mod development demonstrates the modding community’s continued efforts to expand Starfield’s gameplay mechanics and bring it closer to the feature set of similar space exploration games, enhancing the overall immersion of planetary exploration and travel.
