Fingersoft to close Lego Hill Climb Adventures, but no staff will be let go

Fingersoft, the Finnish studio behind Hill Climb Racing, has announced the end of development for its Lego-licensed racing game, Lego Hill Climb Adventures. The decision comes after the game failed to achieve sufficient performance to warrant long-term support.

The studio shared this news via LinkedIn, noting it had “found a hill too steep to conquer.” Rather than laying off staff, Fingersoft is reassigning the Lego Hill Climb Adventures team to its prototyping division, where they will contribute to the development of the studio’s future projects.

While the game is being shut down on traditional platforms, Fingersoft confirmed that Lego Hill Climb Adventures+ will remain available to Apple Arcade subscribers, ensuring some continued access to the title for that audience.

The shutdown follows a staggered timeline. In-app purchases will be disabled on October 23, followed by the complete removal of the game from the App Store and Google Play on December 15.

This closure highlights the challenges of sustaining live-service games in the mobile market. Fingersoft’s decision to retain all staff and reassign them to future projects demonstrates a commitment to its employees even as it discontinues this particular title.
