For the second time this year, Steam has set a major new concurrent user record

Steam has set a new concurrent player record with 43.5 million simultaneous users, the highest in the platform’s 23-year history. Additionally, the number of players actively in-game simultaneously also reached a new record of over 14 million. This marks the second time Steam has surpassed its previous record in 2026, following a peak of 42 million concurrent players in January.

The platform’s sustained growth is particularly notable considering the expansion since the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, which drove significant growth in digital gaming. Since that period, Steam’s concurrent user peak has nearly doubled over the past six years, demonstrating consistent upward momentum.

The record was set following the conclusion of Steam’s Autumn Sale, though the timing appears curious given the sale’s end. The sustained high user counts suggest robust health in the PC gaming market. Steam’s achievement underscores its continued dominance in PC digital distribution, maintaining its position as the primary platform for PC gaming despite ongoing competition from alternative digital storefronts.
