Dropout Announces New Scripted Series that Spoofs MTV
Dropout, the streamer primarily known for its improv-based comedy programming, has announced a new series that marks a departure from its signature format. MP3, a three-episode live-action scripted comedy series, will parody music video countdown shows in the style of MTV’s Total Request Live.
The series features a main cast of comedy talent including Saturday Night Live standout Jeremy Culhane alongside Skye Townsend, Aparna Nancherla, and Paul F. Tompkins. The show’s premise centers on the three main cast members playing host characters who present music videos, conduct guest interviews, and engage in comedic conflicts with their show’s producer, portrayed by Tompkins.
The production incorporates several established Dropout performers in various roles. Katie Marovitch, Lou Wilson, and Jacob Wysocki will appear as music video artists, while writers Jess McKenna and Zach Regno expand their creative contributions by also serving as producers and performing in select music videos. McKenna and Regno also handle the show’s original music compositions.
This announcement represents a strategic shift for Dropout, which built its reputation on unscripted improv comedy. The move into scripted content suggests the platform is diversifying its production slate while leveraging its existing community of performers. By combining SNL talent with established Dropout favorites, the streamer is positioning MP3 as a project designed to appeal to both existing subscribers and viewers of traditional comedy programming.
