Fortnite Dev Reportedly Delays New Marvel/Star Wars Shooter Amid “AI Acceleration” Push
Epic Games has reportedly delayed an unannounced shooter game featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters that was originally scheduled for release in March 2027. The collaboration with Disney is now without a confirmed release date.
According to Bloomberg, Epic Games has issued an internal mandate for the project directing developers to adopt an “AI-first” production model. The directive includes instructions to cease hand-written code development, with all artwork to be generated using AI workflows. Developers working on the project have been instructed to utilize AI tools, including Anthropic’s Claude, to accelerate production.
The shift toward AI-accelerated development comes as part of broader industry trends toward leveraging artificial intelligence in game development. Epic Games has not formally commented on the specifics of the internal directive, though company spokesperson Jake Jones issued a brief statement to Bloomberg regarding the initiative.
The delay and production methodology shift represent significant changes for what was positioned as a major collaboration between Epic Games and Disney, combining intellectual property from both Marvel and Star Wars franchises. The project’s new timeline remains unconfirmed as of the report.
