Google Play is adding a raft of new discovery, curation and AI features

Google Play is introducing a suite of new discovery and curation tools designed to help players find games tailored to their preferences. The platform is rolling out a personalized Game Finder that uses what Google calls “Gamer DNA”—analyzing player preferences and behavior patterns—combined with community reviews to recommend titles. Players can further customize recommendations by specifying preferred games, genres, and mechanics.

Beyond Game Finder, Google Play is adding 48-hour competitive Sprints and Playbacks features within Sidekick, its gaming companion app. These updates reflect Google’s focus on enhancing game discovery at scale: the You tab on Google Play already serves over 250 million monthly active users, while the unified gaming platform connects more than 700 million gamer profiles.

The new discovery features address a longstanding challenge in mobile gaming—helping players navigate thousands of available titles. By leveraging AI and behavioral analysis, Google aims to improve engagement and help developers reach players most likely to enjoy their games. The recommendations also explain why a game was suggested and show social engagement metrics, including how many followed players are currently playing a title. This announcement underscores Google’s commitment to making game discovery more intelligent and personalized across its platform.
