Nvidia Brings DLSS 5 to Hogwarts Legacy, but Some Fans Can’t Tell the Difference
Nvidia is bringing DLSS 5 to Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet in November, featuring a significantly improved neural rendering model. The new DLSS 5 model is approximately twice as fast as the version that debuted in NBA 2K27 last month, providing substantial performance improvements for players using compatible Nvidia graphics cards.
The DLSS 5 technology has been the subject of controversy since its initial reveal earlier this year. When Nvidia first demonstrated the AI-powered rendering tech, it received significant backlash from gamers concerned about how dramatically the neural rendering altered character appearances. Examples included Hogwarts Legacy’s teenage protagonist appearing noticeably older and characters from other games being radically transformed in ways players found concerning or unwanted.
In response to these criticisms, Nvidia has substantially toned down DLSS 5 for its Hogwarts Legacy implementation. New comparison screenshots published by Nvidia show far more subtle visual changes compared to the original reveal, striking a more conservative balance between performance improvements and character fidelity. The company has also brought these refinements to the NBA 2K27 update.
Despite the adjustments, some players report difficulty perceiving the visual improvements in the new screenshots, suggesting the performance gains may come with minimal visible differences in some cases. This represents a notable shift from Nvidia’s initial positioning of DLSS 5 as transformative generative AI technology for gaming.
