Living world, god-mind or “something far more terrifying”: Etre is an eye-melting, Control-inspired action game about reshaping a cosmic brain

Studio Lifeforms has announced Etre, a new third-person action adventure game drawing inspiration from Remedy’s Control. The game tasks players with exploring a vast, interconnected environment described as a planet-sized megamind on the verge of gaining consciousness.

Gameplay involves navigating what the developers call “a luminous labyrinth of architecture,” solving spatial puzzles, and engaging in action sequences. Players are equipped with magic handcannons and can scan their surroundings as they progress through the interconnected world. The game’s visual presentation is notably distinctive, with the Rock Paper Shotgun preview describing it as “eye-melting” in its aesthetic intensity.

The narrative appears to center on exploring this cosmic entity while grappling with existential themes. The game’s tone seems to blend action-adventure gameplay with sci-fi wonder and philosophical undertones, as suggested by its literary reference to Harlan Ellison in the preview copy.
