GTA 6 Leaks Are Still Coming, Rockstar Labels The 2022 Hack “Weirdly Invasive”
Rockstar Games continues to deal with ongoing Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks that began in 2022, with developers expressing the profound emotional toll of having unreleased work exposed publicly. The original breach stemmed from a phishing attack in September 2022 that exposed dozens of unfinished gameplay clips, leading to widespread distribution of material the studio never intended for public viewing. Some leaked content has included explicit material.
More recently, the leaker known as CyberLeek has released additional gameplay footage, claiming their latest posts could be the final leak. These ongoing breaches have continued despite Rockstar and parent company Take-Two successfully tracking down and presumably prosecuting the hacker responsible for the initial 2022 attack.
In a Bloomberg interview, Aaron Garbut, a development lead at Rockstar North, described the experience of having early work exposed as deeply invasive and emotionally difficult. “It feels like somebody’s wading through your dirty washing,” Garbut said. “It’s like they’re inside your head. You see your early work out there. Nobody’s ever supposed to see that. It’s really weirdly invasive. And so it’s quite hard to deal with on an emotional level.”
The ongoing leaks highlight persistent security challenges for major studios protecting unreleased game content and the human impact of large-scale breaches on development teams.
