Kotaro Uchikoshi, Creator Of Zero Escape And AI: The Somnium Files, Launches New Studio
Kotaro Uchikoshi, the creative mind behind acclaimed narrative-driven games Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files, has announced the launch of a new independent development studio called Crash Keys. Uchikoshi is serving as the studio’s representative director and CEO.
The studio’s mission focuses on creating original projects that break away from conventional genre formulas. To realize this vision, Crash Keys is actively seeking investment partners who can provide financial backing and support for its upcoming endeavors.
This move marks a significant career shift for Uchikoshi, though he has previous experience in game studio leadership. He previously co-founded Too Kyo Games alongside Kazutaka Kodaka, where the pair worked together on titles including World’s End Club. The new venture suggests Uchikoshi’s intent to pursue a more independent creative direction while building a studio around his unique design philosophy.
Uchikoshi’s establishment of Crash Keys represents another chapter in the industry’s ongoing pattern of veteran developers establishing independent studios to maintain creative control over their projects.
