League Classic Set To End and Become a Rotating Game Mode
Riot Games announced that League of Legends Classic, a throwback game mode recreating the MOBA from between Season 1 and Season 4, will be shut down on January 6, 2027. The permanent mode lasted less than six months since its launch on July 29, 2026.
League of Legends Classic stripped away most champions and kits introduced since 2013, reverted to an older version of Summoner’s Rift, and promised accelerated rollouts of classic champions compared to the original game’s pace. Despite initial excitement, Riot stated that most players have since returned to other parts of League, with the nostalgia factor proving insufficient to sustain the dedicated playerbase.
While the mode will go offline with no return date currently set, Riot indicated intentions to reintroduce League of Legends Classic as a limited-time event with potential adjustments and additions, rather than maintaining it as a permanent fixture. The developer hopes to improve the mode before any potential revival as a seasonal or event-based experience.
