Casual game marketplace Legacy Games to close online store this December

Legacy Games, a casual game marketplace founded in 1998, has announced the closure of its online store, effective December 31, 2026. The decision marks a significant concern for consumers who purchased games through the platform’s digital store, which launched in 2020 and offered over 1,000 titles—primarily hidden object games and other casual genres for PC, console, and mobile platforms.

The store closure directly contradicts Legacy Games’ prominent marketing slogan, “Yours to keep forever.” Starting February 28, 2027, players will no longer be able to re-download their previous purchases, raising questions about consumer protections and digital game ownership. The store distributed games primarily through multi-game bundles, and also offered physical copies with digital codes at major retailers including Walmart and Amazon.

This closure exemplifies ongoing concerns within the gaming industry about game preservation and the permanence of digital purchases. As more publishers close digital storefronts or revoke access to purchased content, consumers face increasing uncertainty about the long-term availability of games they have bought. The Legacy Games situation highlights the tension between marketing claims emphasizing permanent ownership and the practical realities of digital distribution models, where platform closures can render purchased titles inaccessible regardless of prior promotional language.
