Casual game marketplace Legacy Games to close online store this December
Casual game marketplace Legacy Games will close its digital storefront on December 31, 2026, less than three months away. The platform, established in 1998 and known for publishing hidden object games and casual titles, launched its online store in 2020 with marketing promising over 1,000 titles available with the slogan “Amazing games. Incredible value. Yours to keep forever.”
The closure creates a notable contradiction with that marketing promise. Beginning February 28, 2027, customers will lose the ability to re-download games they previously purchased, despite the company’s stated commitment that games were “yours to keep forever.” This raises concerns about consumer protection and digital ownership rights.
Legacy Games distributed games across multiple formats and channels. The online store specialized in multi-game bundles across PC, console, and mobile platforms. The company also partnered with major retailers, selling physical discs containing digital codes through Walmart stores and Amazon, expanding its reach beyond purely digital distribution channels.
The store closure exemplifies ongoing challenges in game preservation and digital ownership. When online storefronts shut down, players lose access to purchased content they believed would remain permanently available, highlighting the vulnerable position of digital game libraries. This situation underscores industry-wide debates about consumer rights in digital distribution, where platform operators retain technical control and the ability to revoke access to paid products.
The rapid approach of the December 31 deadline means customers have a limited window to download their library before access expires.
