Zangief Actor Olivier Richters Really Wants to Play Tyr in the Live-Action God of War Show
Actor Olivier Richters, known for his role as Zangief in the upcoming Street Fighter film, has expressed interest in playing Tyr in Amazon Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of God of War. Standing over seven feet tall and weighing more than 350 pounds, Richters attributes his exceptional physical stature as the ideal match for the Norse god character.
Richters revealed that his impressive size influenced the casting decisions when he was not selected to play Kratos, the main protagonist, following the departure of actor Ryan Hurst from the role. Hurst was forced to exit the project after sustaining a serious bicep injury during stunt filming for the series. Despite missing out on the Kratos opportunity, Richters believes his extraordinary dimensions and presence make him a perfect fit for Tyr, the Norse god of war and father figure in the God of War mythology.
The casting situation reflects the ongoing challenges in bringing the acclaimed game franchise to live-action television. Richters’ interest in the role highlights how physical casting requirements play a significant part in authentically translating iconic video game characters to the screen, particularly for characters designed to embody imposing mythological figures.
