Steam’s new Big Art Mode is a lovely visual upgrade for my living room setup

Steam has rolled out a major visual upgrade to Big Picture Mode with the introduction of Big Art Mode, now available in the latest Steam client release. The new feature enhances the interface by displaying a full-size, background version of a game’s key artwork behind the standard large art icon, creating a more visually striking presentation.

Users can enable Big Art Mode by launching Big Picture Mode, navigating to Settings, then selecting Home. The update represents a significant visual refresh for players who use Big Picture Mode, particularly those with living room PC setups where the interface is displayed on larger screens.

The feature is designed to put game artwork in the spotlight, leveraging the visual appeal of game cover art to create a more immersive interface experience. The update was previously available in beta testing before being rolled out to the full user base.

Steam Deck users will also benefit from this update, as the visual enhancement has been included in the Steam Deck update notes, suggesting the feature may be available or adapted for handheld gaming as well. The rollout demonstrates Valve’s continued focus on improving the user interface experience across Steam’s various platforms and form factors.
