Ubisoft closing Trials developer RedLynx and downsizing Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced team in Singapore

Ubisoft has announced plans to close RedLynx, its Finnish development studio best known for the Trials arcade racing franchise, with up to 52 jobs at risk pending Finnish labor negotiations. Simultaneously, Ubisoft Singapore will undergo significant layoffs affecting 70 positions as the studio realigns with upcoming production needs.

The actions represent part of Ubisoft’s ongoing restructuring into a new “Creative Houses” organizational model. Both studios had been repositioned into the Creative Network division to provide central support to other development teams rather than pursuing independent projects.

The Singapore layoffs are particularly notable given the studio’s recent commercial success with Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, which sold 2 million copies on its first day and 3 million within a week—exceeding annual targets in just two weeks. Despite this achievement, the studio faces a 20% workforce reduction three months after the game’s launch.

RedLynx, acquired by Ubisoft in 2011, had previously shifted focus toward mobile game development following restructuring last year. The studio currently lacks active standalone projects and is considered unsustainable, leading to the closure decision. Combined, the two actions represent approximately 122 job losses as Ubisoft continues aggressive cost reduction efforts across its global operations.
