Ubisoft closing Trials developer RedLynx and downsizing Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced team in Singapore

Ubisoft has announced plans to close RedLynx, the Finnish developer behind the beloved Trials franchise, affecting up to 52 positions. The 26-year-old studio, acquired by Ubisoft in 2011, currently has no active projects. The closure is subject to consultation and negotiation under Finnish labor laws.

Simultaneously, Ubisoft Singapore—developer of the recently successful Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced—will undergo significant downsizing with 70 positions impacted, representing approximately one-fifth of the studio’s total headcount. Despite the cuts, Ubisoft stated the Singapore studio “remains an important part of Ubisoft’s global production organization.”

The timing is notable given Black Flag Resynced’s exceptional performance. The remake sold 2 million copies on its first day and 3 million within a week, exceeding annual expectations within just two weeks—only three months before these layoffs were announced.

RedLynx’s closure reflects its lack of current projects. The studio had been repositioning toward mobile game development since last year when Ubisoft proposed cutting approximately 60 jobs as it shifted focus to smaller-screen platforms. However, the studio now has no standalone games to sustain it independently, making the closure economically justified in Ubisoft’s assessment.

These announcements represent the latest chapter in Ubisoft’s broader cost-reduction and organizational restructuring, with the two actions combining to impact 122 positions. Both studios had been operating within Ubisoft’s Creative Network structure, providing support services to other development teams rather than leading major projects independently. The closures reflect ongoing industry consolidation and Ubisoft’s efforts to align studios with future production needs.
