Zero Escape and The Hundred Line co-creator’s new studio “might literally crash into a million pieces” after the cancellation of its next game
Kotaro Uchikoshi, co-creator of the Zero Escape series and The Hundred Line, faces uncertain prospects for his studio following the cancellation of its next game. Uchikoshi cited “major changes in the game development landscape” as a contributing factor to the decision.
In a clarification posted on social media, Uchikoshi confirmed he remains part of TooKyo Games and maintains a strong working relationship with fellow co-founder Kazutaka Kodaka, the lead developer behind the Danganronpa series. Kodaka humorously indicated their partnership remains intact, joking that he “may have fallen in love” with Uchikoshi, and noting their close personal and professional bond.
The cancelled project represents a significant setback for the studio, with Uchikoshi expressing concern about TooKyo Games’ viability, suggesting the studio “might literally crash into a million pieces.” Uchikoshi could not provide additional details regarding the specific reasons behind the cancellation, citing constraints on what he’s able to publicly disclose.
The cancellation reflects broader challenges in game development, with Uchikoshi’s reference to landscape-wide changes hinting at industry-wide pressures affecting independent studios and mid-tier developers.
