“You don’t listen to the loudest people in the room” - World of Warcraft: Forever boss discusses how to approach a deluge of feedback

World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta has achieved record-breaking success, drawing what executive producer Holly Longdale called an “insane” influx of players—the largest beta test in Blizzard’s history. The scale was so significant that developers had to increase server capacity immediately after launch.

With this massive player base comes a proportional challenge: managing an overwhelming volume of feedback. Longdale emphasized that the development team strategically filters community input rather than simply listening to the loudest voices, a necessary approach given the passionate and opinionated nature of the WoW Classic community.

Beyond feedback management, World of Warcraft: Forever faces an emerging issue rooted in its community ecosystem: the influence of streamers. While content creators have been integral to WoW’s popularity since Twitch’s early days—particularly following the successful 2019 launch of WoW Classic—their outsized voice in shaping community narratives could complicate the game’s launch.

Controversy has already surfaced around monetization and gameplay decisions. The $30 price point for Skyborne elves, a new playable race, has drawn criticism for paywalling racial options. Additionally, class adjustments like Warrior’s Rage normalization have sparked heated debate about game balance and design philosophy.

As release approaches, Blizzard must navigate competing pressures: managing passionate player feedback, moderating streamer influence on community discourse, and defending its design decisions amid community scrutiny.
