007 First Light gets Switch 2 release date, with IO Interactive saying time for “optimisation and performance” was needed
IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 18, 2027. The game was originally scheduled for summer 2026, but the developer delayed the release to allow additional time for optimization and performance refinement.
The company explained its decision in a press release, stating that the extra development time was necessary “to ensure the quality of experience players expect.” To demonstrate progress and build confidence in the delay, IO Interactive presented playable builds of the game at both gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, giving press and players their first hands-on experience with 007 First Light running on Nintendo’s new hardware.
According to IO Interactive, player response from both gaming events has been positive, suggesting that the additional development focus is paying off. The decision to delay reflects the developer’s commitment to delivering an optimized experience on Switch 2.
