JRPG Fans Will Be Eating Extremely Well in 2027

2026 was a relatively quiet year for Japanese role-playing games, with the exception of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. However, 2027 promises to be a banner year for JRPG fans, with major releases from some of the genre’s largest franchises. Final Fantasy, Persona, and Kingdom Hearts are all slated to release in 2027, marking a significant surge in anticipated titles.

Beyond the major franchises, several JRPG-adjacent games are also scheduled for 2027, including new projects from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the developer behind the Yakuza series. While some of these titles have confirmed release dates—such as Stranger Than Heaven, launching January 15, 2027—others currently carry broader 2027 release windows, with many expected to debut in the second half of the year.

This concentration of releases represents a dramatic shift from 2026’s quieter landscape and could establish 2027 as a landmark year for the JRPG genre and its dedicated fanbase.
