The Third Version of Arizona Sunshine Is Dated for January 2027
Vertigo Games has announced a third iteration of Arizona Sunshine, abandoning virtual reality support entirely in favor of a traditional console experience. The new PS5 version, scheduled for release on January 21, 2027, marks a significant departure from the game’s VR-focused heritage.
The franchise’s evolution reflects shifting market dynamics in gaming hardware. The original Arizona Sunshine launched on PS4 as a PSVR exclusive, establishing the title as a marquee VR shooter. Subsequently, Vertigo Games developed a PSVR2 version specifically optimized for PlayStation 5’s dedicated VR headset. However, this third iteration represents a complete redesign, eliminating VR entirely and repositioning the game as a standard third-person PS5 title.
The shift to third-person perspective gameplay suggests a fundamental reimagining of Arizona Sunshine’s mechanics and presentation. Rather than preserving the immersive first-person VR experience that defined previous versions, this new adaptation prioritizes accessibility and broader appeal by leveraging conventional controller-based gameplay.
The game is now available for pre-order at £19.99 in the UK and $24.99 in the US. PlayStation Plus subscribers can take advantage of a 20 percent discount on pre-orders, with the offer remaining valid until the game’s January 2027 launch.
Arizona Sunshine’s transition from VR to traditional console gaming reflects ongoing industry discussions about virtual reality’s market viability. While VR remains popular in specific demographics, mainstream adoption continues to face hurdles related to hardware costs and library breadth. This strategic pivot allows Vertigo Games to potentially reach a significantly larger audience by offering the Arizona Sunshine experience through conventional means.
