Cyberpunk 2 Is Evolving Beyond Its Director’s Original Vision
Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed 2020 title, is evolving beyond its original creative vision as the development team expands. Game director Gabe Amatangelo revealed in a blog post that while he began the project with a specific concept, the growing team is reshaping the game’s direction through their own contributions.
Amatangelo expressed that the core theme he wanted to explore was dehumanization within the cyberpunk genre. However, with CD Projekt Red assigning more staff to the project, he noted that Cyberpunk 2 is becoming a “reflection” of the collective vision of its development team. As team members add their own creative ideas and perspectives to the sequel, the project is transforming into something different from what Amatangelo initially envisioned.
This evolution represents a common aspect of large-scale game development, where a singular creative vision often becomes shaped as production scales up and more voices contribute to decision-making. Amatangelo’s openness about this shift suggests CD Projekt Red is embracing a collaborative development approach for Cyberpunk 2, allowing the expanded team to shape the game’s direction alongside its director.
