Diablo 5 Inches Closer to Launch as Cinematics Work Begins

Blizzard has revealed that production on Diablo 5 is progressing, with motion capture filming for the game’s cinematics officially underway. Neil David Carter, the cinematic director for the Diablo series, announced the milestone by posting an image of a motion capture studio on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption “First shoot #Diablo5.”

The announcement comes following Blizzard’s official reveal of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, where the company confirmed a release window of Spring 2029. The beginning of cinematic production indicates the game’s narrative and story framework are substantially developed. Diablo 5 will continue the storyline established in Diablo 4, which launched in 2023.

The motion capture filming represents a significant production milestone, indicating the project is advancing beyond early development into the phase where story cutscenes are being realized. With nearly three years until launch, Blizzard has sufficient time to refine the game’s mechanics, story, and technical features, continuing one of gaming’s most storied action RPG franchises.
