Karmine Corp has secured the first victory of the League of Legends 2026 World Championship Play-Ins, defeating North American representatives Cloud9 in a closely contested best-of-five series with a final score of 3-2.
The match marks a significant moment in the ongoing rivalry between Europe’s League European Championship (LEC) and North America’s League Championship Series (LCS), as it represents the first time an LEC team has defeated an LCS team at Worlds in recent years. The series proved to be a grueling affair, with KCorp forced to mount a comeback after trailing in the early games before ultimately securing victory.
Despite the win, both organizations have aspects to reflect on following the intense matchup. The series showcased competitive League of Legends, with both teams producing exciting plays alongside strategic missteps that will likely inform their preparation moving forward.
Both KCorp and Cloud9 now await the outcome of the LCP’s MVK Esports versus CBLOL’s FURIA to determine their next opponents in the Play-Ins bracket. This result sets the stage for what promises to be a competitive tournament, with regional pride on the line as teams vie for advancement through Worlds 2026.
