Reforj developer 4J Studios announces PC release date at Game Republic New Horizons
4J Studios has announced that its open-world survival sandbox Reforj will enter a closed playtest on PC beginning in Q1 2027. The developer revealed the news at Game Republic New Horizons conference during a VIP reception, with studio leads Chris van der Kuyl and Joseph “Stampy” Garrett discussing the upcoming milestone.
The closed playtest will operate on an invite-only basis, with 4J Studios emphasizing that the restricted access approach is designed to ensure an optimized player experience while the team continues development based on feedback. The studio intends to iterate on Reforj throughout the testing phase, incorporating community responses into ongoing updates. The developer has not yet confirmed which digital platform or storefront will host the closed playtest, suggesting further announcements may be forthcoming.
The playtest announcement represents a significant step forward for Reforj’s development cycle, bringing the survival sandbox closer to full release. By scheduling the test for early 2027 and restricting initial access, 4J Studios is signaling a measured approach to early access, prioritizing stability and refinement over immediate widespread availability.
