RuneScape Reignited Canceled Less Than Two Weeks After Being Announced

RuneScape Reignited, a fresh-start game mode announced by Jagex in October 2026, has been canceled less than two weeks after its announcement. The cancellation was announced on October 15 through a YouTube video and blog post by Mod Ryan, the game’s creative director, in direct response to significant player backlash.

The new game mode was designed to allow both new and lapsed players to restart their RuneScape adventure on separate servers with their own distinct economy. However, the community reacted negatively to the proposal, with complaints centering on concerns about potential player base fragmentation, restrictions on character interactions, and the requirement for a separate subscription.

Acknowledging the criticism, Mod Ryan stated that Jagex “missed the mark” and emphasized the studio’s commitment to listening to player feedback. He referenced a previous instance where the studio ignored player concerns regarding combat changes, which took over a decade to recover from. “I said on stage that we would not repeat the same mistakes of the past, and I truly stand by that,” Mod Ryan wrote in the accompanying blog post.

Despite the cancellation of Reignited, Jagex confirmed that its December 2 update will proceed as planned and will include a 10-day free trial. The studio also continues with plans for RuneScape 4, a fourth major version of the MMO announced alongside Reignited.
