Tactical PC FPS Game Squad Is Coming to Consoles, Playable PS5 Alpha Releases Later This Month
Tactical shooter Squad is expanding to consoles for the first time. Developer Offworld Industries announced that the acclaimed PC game will release on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. PS5 players will get early access to test the game through a playable alpha that runs from October 16-25, while Xbox Series X|S players will need to wait for the full console release, unless additional testing opportunities become available.
Offworld Industries has specifically optimized the console versions for each platform. The developer promises handpicked maps and describes the console versions as having “bespoke polish for flawless performance.” Key features include optional crossplay functionality between the console versions, allowing players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S to play together. The console releases also feature a new radial wheel communication system built for controller input, enabling players to issue squad commands and share tactical information with their team.
This console expansion brings Squad beyond its established PC player base to new audiences on PlayStation and Xbox.
