OLED really is the gift that keeps on giving, with what should be cheaper 700 Hz panels planned by TCL for 2028
TCL is planning to manufacture ultra-high-refresh-rate OLED panels designed to be more cost-effective than current premium options. According to Omdia, the company’s Gen 8.6 IJP OLED fabrication facility will begin production in 2028, with plans to produce 32-inch and 34-inch panels capable of reaching up to 700 Hz refresh rates.
The development continues a positive trajectory for OLED gaming displays, which have been trending toward higher refresh rates at more competitive prices. A 700 Hz capability would represent a significant performance jump, particularly benefiting competitive first-person shooter gaming where high refresh rates provide responsiveness advantages over opponents.
TCL’s use of cost-effective manufacturing technology suggests the company aims to make high-performance OLED panels more accessible than current premium alternatives. The planned larger panel sizes indicate the initiative extends beyond niche gaming monitors to mainstream desktop displays.
This announcement reflects the broader industry shift toward OLED as the standard for high-performance gaming displays, potentially replacing traditional LCD technology. The 2028 timeline allows manufacturers and consumers time to prepare for widespread market availability.
