“I lost the concept of home, until my grandmother took me into these forests” - Trollheim: Gnomes is a survival game from ex-DICE and Paradox devs that channels childhood fairytales

Off-leash Interactive, a Swedish studio founded by former developers from DICE and Paradox Interactive, has announced Trollheim: Gnomes, a survival-crafting game published by Fireshine Games. The title combines fairytale-inspired storytelling with survival mechanics, positioning players as three-inch-tall gnomes exploring a procedurally generated forest rooted in Nordic folklore and mythology. Core gameplay activities include climbing colossal trees, building campfires beneath oversized mushrooms, gathering resources, and navigating encounters with Väsen—supernatural creatures from Nordic tradition that players can choose to befriend or avoid. The procedural generation system creates varied forest environments to encourage repeated playthroughs and exploration. The game’s miniature perspective transforms familiar natural settings into vast landscapes, evoking the sense of wonder typically associated with fairytales and childhood adventure stories. The project reflects growing interest in survival-crafting games that blend cultural folklore with core gameplay mechanics.
