Ubisoft to reduce workforce across Düsseldorf, Berlin, and Mainz as part of “proposed voluntary departure plan”
Ubisoft is proposing workforce reductions affecting approximately 100 employees across its German operations. The company has initiated discussions with works councils representing staff at three studios: Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Berlin, and Ubisoft Mainz.
According to a Ubisoft representative, the reductions are part of a “proposed voluntary departure plan” aimed at supporting organizational changes across these locations. The company stated the measure is intended to “best position [its] German studios for the future.” Discussions with the works councils began last week, with the voluntary departure plan being presented as the primary mechanism to facilitate the intended restructuring.
Ubisoft Mainz, notably, is the lead development studio for the Anno franchise. The move represents the latest in a series of workforce adjustments at Ubisoft following challenging financial performance and broader industry shifts. The voluntary nature of the departures suggests the company is attempting to manage the reduction process cooperatively with worker representatives, though the eventual impact on individual studios and ongoing project development remains uncertain.
