Forgotten Monkey Survival Sim Getting Free Xbox Series X|S Upgrade This December
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, an animal evolution simulation originally released on Xbox One, will receive a free upgrade to Xbox Series X|S on December 8, 2026. Developer Panache Digital Games has rebuilt the entire game using Unreal Engine 5, creating what amounts to a new version of the title while offering existing owners a free upgrade path.
The upgrade will be available at no cost to current Xbox One players. Alongside the technical improvements from the engine migration, the remaster introduces a dedicated photo mode and new documentary-style narration. Additional quality-of-life enhancements and visual polish round out the update.
The December release represents a significant modernization for the simulation, which had largely faded from mainstream attention since its original launch. The complete Unreal Engine 5 rebuild demonstrates a commitment to revitalizing the title with updated technology and gameplay features. The addition of documentary-style narration suggests enhanced narrative presentation, potentially deepening the educational aspects of the evolutionary simulation gameplay.
