Controversial Battlefield 6 XP changes have been reversed, with Battlefield Studios saying they were “unintended”

Battlefield 6’s Season 5 launched this week, introducing new maps, weapons, vehicles, and gameplay changes that were generally well-received by the community. However, the seasonal update was marred by two significant issues: unsubstantiated accusations of generative AI use and an unexpected reduction in XP earnings.

Players discovered upon Season 5’s launch that they were earning significantly less XP than before. Compounding the issue, Battlefield Studios provided no prior communication about the XP change, leaving the community confused and frustrated by what appeared to be a stealth nerf to progression rates.

In response to community backlash, Battlefield Studios clarified that the XP reduction was “unintended” and has since reverted the earn rates to their previous levels. The developer did not provide details about how the unintended change occurred or when exactly the fix was implemented.

The XP controversy highlights ongoing challenges in live-service game management, where backend changes can affect player progression and monetization systems. While Battlefield Studios took steps to address the issue, the lack of upfront communication about the change demonstrated poor community management practices during a seasonal launch.
