CD Projekt Red says its mysterious Hadar game is its “biggest project to date”, but even after “several good years” it’s seemingly a long way off
CD Projekt Red has unveiled details about its mysterious next major project, codenamed Hadar, describing it as the studio’s “biggest project to date.” According to joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the game remains in very early development stages, with the team having invested “several good years” into the project without yet reaching the pre-production phase.
Nowakowski revealed that the team has developed a “coherent vision” of Hadar’s world and key elements, and has begun initial work on the game through small prototype development. However, the executive’s comments suggest the project is still far from conventional development milestones, let alone completion.
The extended pre-production timeline suggests either an exceptionally large scope, significant experimental design work, or both. CD Projekt Red’s track record with The Witcher 3 demonstrates the studio’s capacity for large-scale open-world games, though their recent experience with Cyberpunk 2077’s development challenges may be influencing a more cautious approach to Hadar’s timeline.
With Hadar still years away from release, CD Projekt Red’s near-term focus will likely remain on supporting existing titles and potentially other unannounced projects. The revelation offers fans and investors a tantalizing but very distant look at the studio’s post-Cyberpunk 2077 roadmap.
