Every DC Studios Movie and TV Show in Coming Through 2028 (and Beyond)
Since taking control of the DC cinematic universe in 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran have fundamentally restructured Warner Bros.’ approach to adapting comic book properties across multiple mediums. The reimagined DCU officially launched in 2024 with the animated series Creature Commandos, establishing a fresh foundation for iconic heroes including Superman, Green Lantern, and Batman.
Gunn and Safran’s leadership has been marked by both successes and setbacks, with notable deviations from the co-chairmen’s original vision. They had conceived an ambitious 10-year roadmap to develop the DC Universe across theatrical films, television series, and video games.
Despite the comprehensive strategic overhaul, several projects from the pre-Gunn era remain in various stages of development. A new Batman film directed by Matt Reeves continues production under the previous management framework. Meanwhile, the future of Peacemaker, the television series starring John Cena that straddled the transition between regimes, remains uncertain as the franchise implements its new direction.
The leadership transition has required careful navigation between honoring existing projects and establishing a cohesive vision for the franchise. As the DCU expands through 2028 and beyond, decisions regarding legacy project completion, adaptation, or cancellation will significantly influence the shared universe’s trajectory.
