Samson Developer Liquid Swords Goes Bankrupt
Liquid Swords, the Swedish independent developer founded by Christofer Sundberg, has filed for bankruptcy after months of failing to pay its employees. According to a Breakit report published on October 15, nearly 30 staff members have been affected and will receive compensation through Sweden’s state support systems. The studio’s financial collapse comes shortly after the April 2026 release of Samson, which was the company’s first major commercial release. The rapid decline from initial launch to bankruptcy suggests the game did not achieve sufficient commercial success or that underlying financial mismanagement existed. The company’s bankruptcy trustee has indicated efforts to find a buyer for the studio’s assets and intellectual property. This closure underscores the precarious financial position many independent game developers face in a competitive market. Liquid Swords’ situation also highlights broader industry challenges regarding funding stability, project viability, and the management of small development teams.
