Next Red Dead Launching By 2027 Or 2028 “May Not Be Unreasonable,” Bank Says, But It Definitely Is
Investment bank Citi has speculated that Rockstar Games could launch a new Red Dead game as early as 2027 or 2028, contingent on the studio’s actual development costs for GTA 6. In a recent financial memo, Citi suggested that if Rockstar’s claim that GTA 6 cost less than the reported $1.5 billion is accurate, the studio may have the resources and capacity to greenlight a new Red Dead title sooner than previously expected.
However, such an accelerated timeline appears highly unlikely given Rockstar’s historical development patterns. The studio has consistently maintained years—sometimes even a decade or more—between major releases. The gap between Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) and a potential new entry makes a 2027 or 2028 release technically feasible but improbable based on the company’s track record.
The speculation underscores ongoing industry discussion about game development budgets and production timelines, particularly following GTA 6’s massive scope. While Citi’s financial analysis provides insight into Rockstar’s theoretical capacity, industry observers remain skeptical that the studio would commit to another major franchise installment so quickly after GTA 6’s anticipated launch.
