The Netflix series Drive to Survive inspired Star Wars: Galactic Racer

Fuse Games’ upcoming title Star Wars: Galactic Racer has drawn inspiration from Netflix’s acclaimed Formula 1 documentary series Drive to Survive, according to studio head Matt Webster. Webster revealed that the show’s approach to capturing off-track drama and rivalries between drivers informed the game’s design from its inception.

The developer aims to replicate the compelling interpersonal dynamics that have made Drive to Survive successful with audiences. Webster emphasized the importance of creating genuine character conflicts and relationships in the game, noting that “the intrigue and the excitement off track is as compelling as it is on track.” He suggested that while recent F1 narratives have become somewhat sanitized, the studio wants to recapture the intensity of driver rivalries—not just friendly competition, but genuine animosity that makes audiences invested in the outcomes.

This approach represents an interesting creative choice for a Star Wars racing game, blending the franchise’s universe with the documentary-style drama and personality-focused storytelling that has become the hallmark of Drive to Survive’s success since its 2019 debut.
